Broccoli and Cauliflower

One of my favorite side dishes is cheesy broccoli and cauliflower, so it’s no surprise that I let my baby try some as well.  Not only is it healthy, but it’s delicious and very easy to make!  You’ll only need 4 ingredients to make this simply delicious meal.  I buy frozen veggies because I’m  very bad about letting fresh vegetables spoil before I get around to using them.  So I pick up some Kroger brand frozen broccoli cuts and Kroger brand frozen cauliflower.  These are usually on sale for $1/each but sometimes you’ll have to pay $1.39 a pack, which is still cheap.  Then you’ll want to make sure you have spreadable butter and block cheddar cheese at home.  If you don’t Kroger has those too,  I really like Kroger’s if ya’ll haven’t noticed yet 😉 Once you have all your ingredients, you’ll be ready to get your meal started. …

Healthy Birthday Smash Cake

My daughter celebrated her first birthday recently & she had to take part in the age old tradition of smashing her first cake!  We were going to get her a white cake with white icing, maybe some pink flowers on the sides, from our local bakery.  But then my husband and I got to talking about the idea of her cake and we opted for something a little different! We decided on something a little healthier and more affordable! 🙂  We made her cake out of angel food cake ($2.99), strawberries ($2.99) and whip cream (1.50). It’s really simple guys, all you’ll need to do is open the angel food cake and place face down on your desired plate and remove carefully from package.  Next, dice up your strawberries and put in the space in the center of the cake.  We used about 4 or 5 strawberries for this, but…

Strawberries & Bananas

Sometimes as a mom, I run out of ideas for new exciting foods for my baby to try.  And when I’m in doubt I just try mixing some of my babies favorites together.   It’s that’s simple to have a new dish for your little munchkin ?  My girl loves her bananas and she enjoys eating strawberries as well, so I mixed the two together to come up with tonight’s meal plan. To start with you will need to go to your local grocery store and purchase your items.  For this meal all you’ll need is a bundle of bananas and a container of strawberries.  I usually buy organic bananas, so they are a little more expensive but still only cost $2.98 tops!  Your strawberries will be a little more pricey, but again your getting a good bit for your money.  They range from $1.98 to $3.50.  When Kroger is…

Sweet potatoes

My baby started eating sweet potatoes when she was about 4-5 months old.  We started out eating it puréed & of course we used our Baby Bullet! ?  Sweet potatoes are a very cost efficient meal as well.  I typically buy 2 large sweet potatoes from Kroger, they cost me like $.99 a piece at the most!  I like to season the majority of my baby’s food so she has a little extra flavor & in this case, I use cinnamon.  If you buy the Kroger brand your spending less than $2 and the container will last you for awhile, ? Always a bonus! Now, wash and peel your sweet potatoes and cut them into small chunks.  Boil the potatoes until tender and mashable.  Once your potatoes are tender, go ahead and drain the water and put portions into your blending container.  Go ahead and grab your cinnamon and sprinkle 1/4…

Brussel Sprouts

Today Baby girl and I went on our weekly shopping trip to Krogers. Every week I try to pick out one new food that she hasn’t tried yet and this week we stumbled upon Brussel sprouts. I know what everyone is thinking, why would I make my sweet babe eat those lol! But hey, I want her to decide on her OWN what she does and doesn’t like. As long as it’s healthy, we’re gonna try it out 😉 We purchased a bag of frozen organic brussel sprouts for like $3.49! Not bad at all, plus I can make at least 2-3 meals out of that one bag, amazing! These little guys are very easy to cook up as well. I just pulled out 4 brussel sprouts and put them in a little stove top pot and added water. I let them cook for about 15 minutes or until tender….

Melons, Melons, Melons

Tonight we decided to try out some fruits from the melon family.  My baby has always loved her fruits so it’s not a surprise that she smashed dinner tonight! 🙂  Last week when we went to the store we picked up some fresh waterlmelon, fresh cantaloupe and fresh honey dew. The Perks Watermelons– these tasty morsels are over 90% water!  Most people don’t know that they have vitamin A,B and C  in them!  And on top of that they have antioxidants! Cantaloupe–  are packed with antioxidants as well!  They also have anti inflammatory phytonutrients! Honey Dew– they have very high potassium levels and high water content!  These tasty treats even repair skin tissue since they are high in copper and vitamin C! So now that you’ve heard all the health benefits, let me tell you how easy it is to prepare!  We literally just cut our fruits up into little…

Sweet Peas

My girly has always loved eating sweet peas! It’s on her menu at least twice a week. When she was little we used to blend them up for her in the Baby Bullet. It was very simple to do and only took me a few minutes. You’d add your peas, I usually buy frozen sweet peas because they keep longer for me before I’m ready to use them. I would fill my blender up with the pre cooked peas and add about a 1/4 cup of water. If you buy The Baby Bullet you will receive a free nutrition guide inside with the precise measurements for each fruit and veggie. As she got older I would just blend them up a little less so they’d be a chunkier consistency. Now that she’s older I season them with a dash of pepper while they are cooking and a small amount of…
